Back in 2019...
Have some spare time on hand, and what’s a better way than a trip down the memory lane when travelling overseas was normal. 2019 seems like such a long time ago now.
This trip to South Korea was actually half work and half personal trip. It was a very short 5 days in South Korea, and we only stayed around the Seoul area. I was working during the day, and I joined back with my friends during the night time.
We stayed in the Hongdae area as it was super convenient with the location. There are also many places on Airbnb that are around this area. No specific recommendations, just do a quick search on Airbnb. But to be honest, as long as you’re near a station, any area is fine as it’s all pretty easy to get around using public transport in Seoul.
We visited some very touristy places
Some if not all of the places I have been before on my first trip to Seoul, so this isn’t a list of places to go, but rather just the places we visited on this very short trip. But a trip makes all the difference depending on who you’re travelling with - each time is always a new experience!
Cheonggyecheon
This water stream is a popular place to walk around at night, especially after a full dinner. It’s usually very busy with both locals and tourists, and is nicely decorated with lights and lanterns. The decorations will definitely change according to different events and seasons, but no matter when you come it’ll always be a nice relaxing walk at night.
Bukchon Hanok Village
A korean traditional village located in the city of Seoul. Many tourists come to this area dressed in traditional Korean clothing (if you see them you know you’re in the right area).
Onion Anguk (Just a food stop)
Very Instagrammable place and the bread, cakes and drinks are still pretty decent. Expect this place to always be packed, and there’s always a line and hard to find a place to sit.
Gyeongbokgung Palace
We stopped very briefly at the Gyeongbokgung Palace to catch the Guard handover ceremony.
Gwangjang Market
We actually got lost in this market trying to find the Netflix aunty. You might be wondering - who’s the Netflix aunty? I didn’t know when we got there either, but my friend told us that he saw the Netflix show called Netflix Street Food, and there was an episode that showcased Korean Street Food at this market.
Check out the below video
She’s really nice in person, and my friend was able to get a photo with her too.
I’ll recall up to this much for now. It’s getting late in the night, and if there’s more memories to reminiscence on, it’ll be in the next blog post.
Until then, stay safe!
